Clement Park

There's still time to catch a free outdoor music show through Foothills Park and Recreation at Clement Park! Every Thursday from 7-8:30pm you'll find a variety of different musical talents to enjoy as you relax in the park. There are three more weeks left of the Summer Entertainment Series. If you're looking for day time events, look no farther!

Clement Park spans just about the entire area between Pierce and Wadsworth Blvd. on Bowles Ave in Littleton. The 60 acre Johnson Lake is a main attraction with 1.4 miles of lighted, paved trail tracing it's border. You'll find people fishing, running, biking, and walking around the lake any hour of the day. This expansive park also has several playgrounds, almost 20 shelters, a skate park, horseshoe pits, tennis courts and much, much more!

If you live in south suburban Denver, Clement Park is a great meeting place for families with kids. You can reserve a shelter for a family gathering or birthday celebration. Or you can just meet up with a girlfriend to push strollers around the gorgeous lake. It is easy to find and the parking is abundant. Because the park sits just behind the shopping area at Bowles and Wadsworth, you could also plan on meeting up for dinner or a coffee followed by a nice walk - I've done this more than once!

Have you been to Clement Park? Tell us your secret tips.

Make a Difference: Black Stallion Literacy Program

Although it's hard to pin down our very favorite summer activity, one would have to be our afternoon with the Black Stallion Literacy Project. I was unfamiliar with the program until it was brought to the HoneyBear Tree Preschool at our church and my children attended with other children from the community. The Black Stallion Literacy Project (BSLP) is a program that is well represented around the front range in Colorado, but extends across the country from it's roots in Florida.

Born of a family heritage in 1999, BSLP has grown to serve hundreds of thousands of children across the nation. The purpose and goal of the organization is clear on their website:

"The Black Stallion Literacy Foundation is an innovative partnership of educators, businesses, volunteers, education foundations, and staff members focused on promoting literacy through the winning combination of live horses and books by Walter Farley. The program is based on the classic books of Walter Farley an…

Faith is the art of holding on to things your reason has once accepted in spite of your changing moods

Summer Plan 2012

Is anyone else asking themselves what happened to the last 3 months?? (Maybe you're wondering what happened to the last 3 years or just the last 3 days... at any rate you know how I feel, mom.)

Today was my kids' last day of school for the year. I'm sitting on the precipice of another summer. This was my first year of "freedom" - two kids in school full time. It felt good. But as predicted I packed every possible moment with housework, volunteering, writing, and working at my "real job" (ie. the one I actually get paid to do).

And it makes me wonder, how will I ever scale back and just enjoy the lazy days of summer?? How can I embark on a summer of fun and adventure without feeling like I'm staring into the abyss? I've done an unofficial survey of other moms I know and there's a mix of emotions. Some are ecstatic to have kids at home this summer; others are dreading it. I have a funny feeling the first group isn't telling the whole truth…
